Spent the whole month writing every day on here, but I've also done other stuff as well.
Books
No books finished this month! I'm at around 2/3rds of Keigo Higashino's "Guilt" and I'm liking it a lot. Will probably finish it this week or so.
Movies
- 🎥 The Odyssey: I liked the movie but Nolan could've made a Ulysses that wasn't a complete fucking idiot, or at least commit to the bit and not pull "He's the cleverest man I know" out of his ass when this guy kept fumbling every 15 minutes when it wasn't required by the plot for him to display 1 gram of brains. I feel the movie would've been better if it was a little more detached from the original mythos; as it is, it's just an awkward middle ground.
- 🎥 Digimon Adventure: Re-watch with my wife to test out our new Jellyfin server. Cute timeless OVA, nothing to add here. I need to get me a vinyl with the Bolero on it.
- 🎥 I Saw the TV Glow: What a pleasant surprise! Banger movie. No clue how some people missed the trans message because I think it was pretty on the nose. At first I was pretty disappointed with the ending, as it kept switching between two ideas over and over and the movie could've ended 15 minutes earlier, but after reading a bit about it (apparently there's a deleted scene at the end???) I think I can stomach it. Overall pretty fucking cool.
- 🎥 Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma: There sure was a lot of (not teenage) sex and death at Camp Miasma. Look, I liked the movie, but I really DON'T KNOW who I'd recommend it to. It's got a very interesting take on self and sex and it made me sick 65% of the time, but also some moments where so hysterically over the top I almost burst out laughing in the cinema. It's something. I wouldn't watch it again but I'm glad I did once.
Videogames
- 🎮 Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 - Umi no Bouken Hen: I cried at the end goddammit. I've also discovered I don't like playing games day by day following the in-game calendar, it feels like I'm doing dailies in a gacha. Good to know!
- 🎮 Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty: My brother and I played it with no prior knowledge of the first game around 15 years ago, and now I did on my own after playing the first one. I'll be brief: I really loved this game. It's fun (I can't say the same of the previous one), it's quirky, it's downright insane at times and its themes are right up my alley. It's going to be very hard to top it as my favourite in the series.
- 🎮 SHINRAI Saku - Blooming Beyond Despair: Played it as a beta tester and loved it, as expected. I think I did a really good job with the music and I'm proud of how it enhanced the rest of the game! Looking forward to what's coming next, but I'm confident I'll like it.
The Good Stuff
- The comfort of a Rubik’s Cube: pretty much why I became obsessed with Sudoku, Murdoku and whatnot. "There’s something about keeping your hands busy when your brain feels broken."
- Adventure Player: Choose your own adventure: I am obsessed with this type of tools, and I kinda want to try it out...
- thoughts about fiction & reality after reading Nihao, Oishii Tokyo Biyori: "experience is by nature subjective, & we humans know reality through our experience of it". Just yesterday, I found a post from an old blog (2018-ish) I deleted in which I wrote about similar thoughts. Good one from kc as always.
- Extending life perception: Herman writes about probably the thing I care about the most in journaling. I never thought about the science-side of it (despite being very familiar with active recall!), but I agree 100%.
Misc
- I'm so tired man.
