All Right part2
A song came on shuffle today, as I was coming home from a lovely day at the lake with a beloved friend, so I was in a pretty good mood.
I'd say my mood inspired the thought that followed, but I tend to obsess over these things no matter the weather. Anyway, what's important here is that, of course, there is no part 1.
I find it hilarious when people comment stuff like "Can I play Expedition 33 before playing the previous 32?", or "Does Super Mario 64 require knowledge from all the 63 games that were before?". Pulling off a "part 2" when it's really just a single part is funny. I'd do it. You could even release a part 1 afterwards, who cares? Or let people wonder what did they miss to begin with.
On the other hand, I was thinking of my recent experience with Metal Gear Solid: my brother and I played just the second game many years ago with no prior knowledge of the series, and we still liked it even though we didn't grasp A LOT of the plot. Now that I'm playing the games in order, I really appreciate how much 2 expands on its predecessor! And I liked the game a lot more, too. I don't think I gained much by skipping the first game the first time compared to now, but I did have a positive experience that's different from doing things in order. And I love doing things in order!
I guess what I'm saying is that, sometimes, it's fun to start from the middle and just wonder. A lot of people I know started from either Kingdom Hearts II or Chain of Memories, and then as they got hooked they went back to the previous chapter(s). My first Gundam series was Unicorn: I barely got most of the plot but I was so intrigued I got my first gunpla and eventually watched the original series, and then more. I'm someone who swears Nein is a GREAT starting point to get into Sound Horizon despite being for the most part an alternate retelling of all previous albums, because it's basically an hors d'oeuvre1 of everything that came before. Then you're intrigued enough to get back and fill in the gaps; it's the absence of certainty that makes it so compelling.
I'm not sure this is the correct term in context but I really wanted to use the word. You got what I meant though, right?↩
